Zusammenfassung

Verletzungen der Menisken stellen die häufigste Ursache von Kniegelenksverletzungen dar. Im Durchschnitt wurden in den Jahren 1995-1997 127407 Meniskusverletzungen in Deutschland operativ behandelt. Europaweit werden ca. 350 000 Eingriffe pro Jahr durchgeführt. Die Ursachen sind in der Mehrzahl der Fälle Sportverletzungen (Abb. 1). Aufgrund des veränderten Freizeitverhaltens wird in der Zukunft mit einem Anstieg der Zahlen zu rechnen sein.
