Abstract
The prime purpose of crash investigation and analysis is to determine what actually happens in crashes, as opposed to what is thought to happen. I also believe that accurate information on the factors and processes involved in crash and injury occurrence is required to develop effective countermeasures. Therefore, there is, or should be, a close relationship between the investigation of crashes, the recording and analysis of crash data, and the development and evaluation of effective countermeasures. Finally, it is very important that the results of analysis be communicated to those who are involved in putting countermeasures and preventive programs into practice.
