Die Fossillagerstätten von Bolca gehören zu den bedeutendsten und bekanntesten ihrer Art; in der paläontologischen Literatur werden sie seit langem als „Monte Bolca“ bezeichnet, auch wenn es keinen Berg dieses Namens gibt.
