Abstract

A few epidemics of Chlamydia pneumoniae have been reported [1–4]. The first study linking C. pneumoniae to respiratory disease was performed by Saikku and colleagues in Finland and Seattle. Serum samples collected in 1978 from adolescents and young adults in two communities in northern Finland with chest X-ray infiltrates were investigated in Seattle by Saikku and Wang. The sera reacted in the microimmunofluorescence (MIF) test with a chlamydial strain — TW 183 — collected in Taiwan 1965. The study was published 1985 [1].
