Zusammenfassung
Das zur Zeit äußerst populäre Naturheilmittel Teebaumöl unterliegt nach Zutritt von Licht und Sauerstoff einer Photooxidation, die zur Bildung von Peroxiden, Hydroperoxiden und Endoperoxiden der im Öl enthaltenen Monoterpene führt. Während frisch destilliertes Teebaumöl selten zu Hautveränderungen führt, induziert autoxidiertes Öl eine Kontaktallergie. Als Hauptursache wurden bisher α-Terpinen, Terpino-len, Ascaridol und 1,2,4-Trihydroxymenthan identifiziert. Letztere waren bisher nicht als Sensibilisiatoren bekannt.
