Abstract

The spleen is an infrequent target of infection. However, an increasing number of immunocompromised patients, including those with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), organ transplants, chemotherapy for malignant disease and congenital immunodeficiency syndrome, exhibit a marked increased incidence of splenic infections.
