Abstract
Ceramics are inorganic non-metallic materials including oxides, borides, carbides, nitrides and silicides. Major application areas are electronics and engineering. It is engineering ceramics, used for mechanical applications, often involving high temperature, which are discussed here. The major engineering ceramics are A12 O3 , ZrO2 , SiC and Si3 N4 .
