Abstract
When economists and financial markets people are drawing up the world rankings they are so fond of, Australia rarely appears in the top five countries. But it is usually found in the next five, and rarely below number 15 in such lists. For a small country — not quite 20 million people — in, arguably, the most inconveniently located position in the world, this is probably acceptable.
