Abstract

Peripheral nerves are luxuriously vascularized resulting in a high safety margin. Counts revealed 32–72 (mean: 57) blood vessels with one arteria nu-tritia in the epineurium of human sural nerves (Fig. 239) [1006]. These, as well as the endoneurial blood vessels (the endoneurium contains mainly capillaries), show numerous pathognostic or nonspecific changes (angiopathies) which may or may not cause neuropathy due to ischemia or inflammation.
