Die Renaissance des „morphologischen Bedürfnisses“ im 20. Jahrhundert: Endoskopische Biopsie und Punktionshistologie

Zusammenfassung

In den ersten Jahrzehnten des 20. Jahrhunderts erfährt weder die Alltagsarbeit in den Pathologischen Instituten einen bemerkenswerten Wandel, noch gibt es wesentliche methodische Fortschritte auf dem Gebiete der Histopathologie. Es dominiert das autoptische Beobachtungsgut, das sorgfältig bearbeitet wird. Die voluminösen Lehr- und Handbücher der Zeit legen Zeugnis von der Summe an Kenntnissen ab, die auch heute noch weithin Bestand haben, zum Teil aber schon wieder in Vergessenheit zu geraten drohen. Das bioptische Beobachtungsgut kommt so gut wie ausschließlich aus den operativen Fächern, woran die Gynäkologie einen beachtlichen Anteil hat. Am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts erhalten die meisten deutschen Universitätsinstitute für Pathologie jährlich nicht mehr als 400-500 Einsendungen operativen Materials. Die „Dienstleistung“ des Professors und seiner Mitarbeiter wird in erster Linie als kollegiale Gefälligkeit angesehen, um die der einsendende Arzt höflich ersucht. Das gilt vor allem für die auswärtigen Einsendungen aus der Praxis. Hier liegen uns schöne — unveröffentlichte — Beispiele aus alten Einsendejournalen der Universitätsinstitute Erlangen und München vor.1
