Abstract
Efforts to stimulate agricultural and rural development in sub-Saharan Africa have been rather ineffective. Among the reasons are misconceptions of decision makers at all levels when considering farmers’ capacities and strategies as well as overly optimistic estimations of the natural resources that sustain agricultural production. Seven widely believed myths are confronted with a more complex reality below
