Abstract
Organic agriculture is an excellent showcase of a successful grassroots development and movement. Farmers, consumers, scientists and traders realized that the chemical intensive conventional or so-called modem agriculture is ultimately destructive not only to the environment but also to rural development and the livelihood in villages. Refusing to follow the dead end road of conventional agriculture, the organic movement has developed a holistic system of producing food and fiber, which is not only environmentally and economically sustainable but also socially sound.
