Abstract

Malignant lymphoma is one of the most common malignancies that associate with AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) (Herndier et al. 1994; Knowles 1999). The revised criteria for the diagnosis of AIDS by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 1987 includes diffuse aggressive intermediate -or high-grade non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) of B-cell or indeterminate phenotype as one of the major complications in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected individuals (CDC 1987). Recently, the introduction of highly active anti-retroviral therapy (HAART) has dramatically decreased various complications in AIDS patients. In contrast, however, the incidence of AIDS lymphoma did not decrease as did the other complications (Franceschi et al. 1999; Grulich 1999).
