Zusammenfassung
Die Entwicklungsbiologie beschäftigt sich mit zwei Hauptfragen: der Entstehung von Zelldiversität, d.h., wie sich die verschiedenen, in einem multizellulären Organismus vorkommenden Zelltypen entwickeln, und der Musterbildung, d.h., wie Zellen sich gruppieren, um Gewebe und Organe zu bilden. Zwar können diese Fragen auf Grund ihrer Komplexität noch nicht umfassend beantwortet werden, Entwicklungsbiologen haben aber einige der beteiligten Grundelemente und Mechanismen weitgehend aufgeklärt.
