The peritoneum* is a thin continuous serous lamina that lines the wall of the abdominopelvic cavity; inside, it curves to surround the hollow viscera, the Hver and the spleen and to give ligaments and mesenteries. All in all, the peritoneum limits and confines a wide and complex cavity: the peritoneal cavity.
