Abstract

Less than 3% of all childhood neoplasms are diagnosed within the first month of life. Their overall incidence is estimated to be 1/100,000 live births (0.89/100,000 for solid-type tumors). Although rare, tumors develop during fetal life and even metastasize. Any organ can be involved but some sites and tumors types are more frequent (Table 13.1) (Salloum et al. 1990, Teinturier et al. 1992, Parkes et al. 1994, Grundy et al. 2001). The prognosis depends upon the tumoral type and extent at diagnosis. Therefore, it is mandatory to detect and assess the anomaly as early as possible ,especially during fetal life, so that postnatal management can be optimized (Meizner 2000).
