Abstract

The urban population in Greece (1991) amounts to 6,036,660 inhabitants, representing 58.84 per cent of the country's total population. The Greater Athens and Thessaloniki Areas concentrate 3.1 and 0.74 million inhabitants respectively. There are four other cities with a population of more than 100,000 inhabitants (Patra, Iraklio, Larisa, Volos), one city with population of 70,000 inhabitants (Hania), and 48 cities with population of under 60,000 inhabitants.
