Zusammenfassung
Mit ca. 2–5 Mio. ekkrinen Schweißdrüsen am gesamten Integument sind diese Drüsenstrukturen die häufigsten Drüsen der menschlichen Haut. Ihre Dichte schwankt zwischen ca. 60 Drüsen/cm 2 am Rücken und 600–700/cm 2 an Handflächen und Fußsohlen. Ekkrine Schweißdrüsen finden sich an der gesamten Körperoberfläche einschließlich der Glans penis und der Vorhaut, aber nicht an den Lippen, dem äußeren Gehörgang, der Klitoris oder den Labia minora. So ausgedehnt kommen ekkrine Schweißdrüsen nur beim Menschen vor, bei anderen Säugetieren finden sie sich vornehmlich auf die Pfoten beschränkt, und lediglich bei Primaten sind sie in wechselnder Ausprägung am übrigen Integument vorhanden. Während die ekkrinen Schweißdrüsen einen direkten Ausführungsgang zur Oberfläche der Epidermis besitzen, mündet der Ausführungsgang der phylogenetisch älteren apokrinen Schweißdrüsen in das supraseboglanduläre Infundibulum der Haarfollikel.
