Abstract

The nature of geotechnical boundary value problems is characterized by large subsurface body, nonlinear mechanical behaviour of soils/rocks, soil/structure interaction and the fact that most boundary value problems are coupled, e.g. water or heat transport in saturated or unsaturated soils. In this report numerical solutions of different categories of geotechnical boundary value problems are discussed regarding their physical nature and the numerical expense to solve the problems.
