Abstract

• Liver abscesses are either pyogenic or parasitic. • Early diagnosis and prompt treatment of the underlying cause reduce morbidity and mortality. • Source control consists of drainage using surgical or US/CT-guided aspiration and antibiotic therapy. • Hydatid cysts of the liver can be managed surgically as well as percutaneously. Source control can be achieved by radical or conservative procedures.
