Die Simulation besitzt für die Planung und Analyse von technischen Systemen in vielen Einsatzgebieten seit längerem einen hohen Stellenwert. Klassisch stehen dabei die Planungs- und Investitionsabsicherung im Vordergrund. Im Bereich der Automobilindustrie lassen sich beispielsweise vielfältige Simulationsanwendungen in der Logistik-, Fabrik-und Anlagenplanung finden.
