Uranium in the Aquatic Environment

Abstract

The way of closure, remediation and re-cultivation of dumps, tailings ponds and sites contaminated by radioactivity depends primarily on the need for reducing the discharge of contaminants via the water pathway. In combination with optimization requirements within radiation protection laws for uranium mining liabilities special contours and cover systems were developed, tested and optimized during the last ten years, especially on the basis of complex water balance assessments.
