Web-Services werden zumeist als Beispiel für eine „Service-orientierte Architektur (SOA)“angeführt. Dieses Kapitel behandelt Grundlagen und Protokolle von Web-Services, sowie derzeit noch offene Aspekte, die mittelfristig für einen tragfähigen Erfolg von Web-Services notwendig sind. Dieses Kapitel untersucht die Bestandteile und die sowohl im akademischen Umfeld als auch in der Industrie diskutierten Bereiche auf anschauliche Weise.
