Nuclear structure of exotic neutron-rich 149Ce and 147La

Abstract

The present work is a part of our systematic studies of strong electric octupole correlations in the region of heavy isotopes of barium, lanthanum and cerium. High spin studies of the 149Ce (N = 91) [1,2] and 147La (N = 90) [3] nuclei showed no evidence for octupole deformation in the former nucleus while in the latter one some octupole effects, weakened by alignment phenomena, have been suggested. The new γ-spectroscopic data on the low-lying states in 149Ce and 147La studied in the β-decay of 149La and 147Ba, respectively, at OSIRIS facility at Studsvik in Sweden, provided new information on the low-spin levels and also appeared to be helpful in interpretation of the high-spin level structure of these nuclei.
