New neutron magic number N = 16 for neutron-rich nuclei

Abstract

A breaking of magicity has already been observed at the N = 20 shell closure where an “island of inversion” in shell ordering has been shown to exist. However, until lately no experimental evidence about magic numbers, substituting N = 20, was available. Recently, we have surveyed [1] two experiments performed at GANIL from the point of view of the importance of two-neutron separation energies for determination of neutron shells in this region.
