Melting of Stripes in a Two-Dimensional Hard-Core Boson Hubbard Model

Abstract

We investigate the melting of the stripe phase in the square lattice hard-core boson Hubbard model with nearest and next nearest neighbor repulsion using quantum Monte Carlo simulations. We find that the stripe melting is realized in a first order transition at low temperatures. In addition we conjecture that a nematic phase does not exist in this model
