Abstract

Primary neoplasms of the small bowel are uncommon. Many of the tumors are asymptomatic or incidentally found. While there has been no firm guideline established for imaging workup of the tumors, SBFT, enteroclysis, CT, and CTEg have been used. Important lesions include adenomas, leiomyomas, lipomas, and hemangiomas. Except for lipoma, which has characteristic CT findings, radiological characterization of the benign tumors is very difficult since they commonly appear as nonspecific polypoid lesions. Although rare, familial adenomatous polyposis syndrome and Peutz-Jeghers syndrome are important diseases that can involve the small bowel, presenting as polyposis. Both syndromes have increased risk of cancers.
