Deformation and Flow of Polymeric Materials

Abstract

For many processing operations of polymeric materials, elongational properties of their melts play an important role. As the elongational behavior cannot generally be derived from shear, special investigations on elongational flow are necessary. The fundamentals of extensional deformations are given and some experimental devices presented. The principal features of elongational flow are discussed by means of a long-chain branched polyethylene and polypropylene.
