Abstract

Boston Keratoprosthesis is the innovation and design of Professor Claes H. Dohlman, former Chairman and Professor of Ophthalmology of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. He is the teacher to hundreds of ophthalmologists and over 50 professors and chairpersons of ophthalmology. He recognized cornea as a subspecialty and established the first cornea department in the USA. Professor Dohlman realized the need to have an artificial cornea over 50 years ago. The design of the Boston KPro has evolved over the decades modified by clinical experience with patients.
