Zusammenfassung
Dieses Kapitel gibt einen Überblick über Verlauf und Prognose der Anorexia nervosa (AN). Obwohl unterdessen eine stattliche Zahl an Studien zum mittel- und langfristigen Verlauf dieser Erkrankung vorliegt, ergibt diese aufgrund uneinheitlicher Verlaufsindikatoren ein heterogenes Bild. Für AN-Patientinnen im Erwachsenenalter ergab eine große Verlaufsstudie, dass in der Hälfte der Fälle von einer kompletten Remission und Heilung auszugehen ist. Allerdings zeigt ein Drittel einen Residualzustand und ein Fünftel der Patienten litten unter einem schweren und chronifizierten Verlauf. Gewichtete Mortalitätsrate für die AN betrug 5,1, wohingegen die standardisierte Mortalitätsrate 5,9 ergab. Dabei verstarb eine von fünf AN-Patientinnen an den Folgen eines Suizids, das Gros an den direkten Folgen der Mangel- und Fehlernährung.
