Dermatology Atlas for Skin of Color

Abstract

Pityriasis rosea (PR) is a common, self-limited, harmless disorder of the skin. The exact etiology is unknown; however, a link to latent human herpes virus 6 or 7 has been postulated. Although PR is a fairly harmless condition, diagnosis often presents a dilemma due to its clinical presentation being similar to tinea corporis, nummular dermatitis, and secondary syphilis. Specific clinical findings can help to make the proper diagnosis. PR is usually treated with conservative management.
