Abstract

Folliculitis decalvans (FD) is an inflammatory scalp disorder. This neutrophilic, scarring alopecia is felt to be caused by an abnormal immune response to Staphylococcus aureus. It affects African American males most commonly. Tufted folliculitis is a classic clinical finding. The disorder is chronic and difficult to treat; however, various oral antibiotics, corticosteroids, and laser treatments have been used to ameliorate the condition.
