Abstract

So far we have discussed problems where the equations of motion could be solved analytically. In many applications it is difficult or even impossible to find an analytical solution. In these cases it is necessary to calculate an approximate solution with the help of an appropriate numerical integration scheme. We will discuss several numerical methods which enable us to compute numerical solutions of differential equations. You will learn how to apply numerical methods to treat initial-value problems.
