Abstract

There exists a long tradition of studying the impact of life events and chronic life stress on the onset of mental (and/or physical) illness. More recently the focus of interest within this area has drifted towards two main problems (for a short overview, see Dohrenwend and Dohrenwend 1981).

The Upper Bavarian Restudy was supported by the German Research Association (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) within Special Research Division 116 (Psychiatric Epidemiology).
