Demonstration of Electrical Surface Charge Effects at the Inner Side of the Thylakoid Membrane

Abstract

Thylakoid vesicles which are formed by the thylakoid membrane are the place of the primary events of photosynthesis in green plants. Electrical charges on the surface of membranes give rise to surface potentials which depend on both surface charge density and salt concentration in the surrounding solution. In this work we present data from functional measurements which demonstrate the influence of surface charges at the inner side of the thylakoid membrane.
