Clinical Assessment in Pouchitis: Is It Accurate in Diagnosis?

Abstract

The pathogenesis of pouchitis is unknown [1], Proposed aetiological factors have included faecal stasis and bacterial overgrowth [2], recurrent Crohn’s disease [3], recurrent ulcerative colitis [4] and specific enteropathogens [5]. However, many of the cases of pouchitis described in the literature have not been fully documented using the now recognised clinical, endoscopic and histological criteria [4].
