Abstract

The behaviour of a rigid perfectly-plastic structure after reaching the yield point load is considered.

Criteria of material and geometric stability in Lagrangian description are formulated. The influence of assumed kind of definition of objective Cauchy stress rate on the material and geometric stability is discussed.

The theory is illustrated by examples of cylindrical shells subjected to a complex load. Stability in these cases depends on the ratio of the lateral tractions as well as on the geometry of the shell.
