Abstract

Classic otologic surgery under operative microscopy has proved to have its limitations, whatever the technique. It is performed blindly and thus adds to the risk of residual cholesteatoma. It is especially in this form of otitic pathology that use of the endoscope is properly indicated, and with two objectives:

  • monitoring of the quality of eradication;

  • supplementing the operating microscope surgery with a video-monitored procedure.
