Abstract
We have arrived at the end of this symposium and the time has now come to summarise the conclusions of our joint work. I think it would be presumptuous for someone who has been actively concerned in the organisation of this meeting to stress how productive the work has been. We shall leave it to the readers of the published proceedings to judge that for themselves. From the point of view of the participants, there is no doubt that meetings of this type, at which persons representing, as we do, different backgrounds and disciplines have the opportunity of comparing and discussing their opinions and experience, are extremely useful. The presence at these sessions of physiologists, pharmacologists, and clinicians is a clear sign that in medical disciplines every step forward is nowadays a product of teamwork, and I am sure that each of us, on returning home, will have something to take back to his colleagues in the form of more accurate views, widened experience, or new ideas.
