Die Ovarien schrumpfen im Alter zu haselnußgroßen oder noch kleineren, harten Körpern mit unregelmäßig gefalteter, hirnrindenähnlicher Oberfläche (Ovarium gyratum). Röntgen- und Radiumstrahlen vernichten vor allem den Follikelapparat.
