Abstract
The contributions to this session have been arranged, in what is considered to be a logical order. That is to say the reactions between the platinum compounds and small molecules have been reported first, and reactions with macromolecules later. All the studies have been carried out on systems at equilibrium, usually after some days have elapsed from the initiation of reaction. From a chemical standpoint, this is meaningful, but it could be maintained that from a biological standpoint, kinetic data would be more relevant, bearing in mind the short period of time over which most drugs are present in an organism at a reasonable concentration. All the papers submitted to this session are concerned with isolated biological macromolecules, or components of such, and such a comment is not intended as a criticism of such investi-gations.
