Augmented Immunogenicity of Tumor Cell Homogenates Infected with Influenza Virus

Abstract

We have studied the use of influenza virus to augment the immunogenicity of tumor-transplantation antigens (TTA) isolated from tumor homogenates [1, 2, 3, 4]. The data to be presented here refer to a transplantable SV 40-induced fibrosarcoma in BALB/c mice infected with the WSA strain of mouse-adapted influenza virus [1]. We have obtained similar results with methylcholanthrene-induced fibrosarcomas and a Moloney virus-induced lymphoma of mice. In addition, the Hong Kong strain of influenza virus appears to be as effective as the WSA strain after adaption to growth in mouse cells.
