ROPES- A Rule-Based Outpatient Expert System

The paper describes ROPES, an outpatient diagnosis program. ROPES combines both the categorical, forward reasoning approach with the MYCIN--like backward reasoning approach to confirm an outpatient’s disease(s). First, a patient’s possible disease(s) are promptly isolated using categorical flowcharts. This is followed by the application of the certainty factors technique to confirm the existence of the disease(s) with more evidence. The objective of ROPES is to assist a trained medical staff to identify a patient’s diseases very quickly with least aids from detailed laboratory data, medical history, etc.

Die vorliegende Arbeit beschreibt ein regelbasiertes Expertensystem zur Unterstützung der Diagnosestellung im Bereich der ambulanten Patientenversorgung (ROPES). Dieses System verknüpft einen kategoriellen ‘Forward-Reasoning’ Ansatz zur klassifizierung einer Erkrankung mit einer ähnlich wie im MYCIN verwendeten Vorgehensweise des ‘Backwards-Reasoning’, um eine Erkrankung zu bestätigen. Zunächst werden mit Hilfe von kategoriellen Flowcharts Erkrankung(en) isoliert, danach folgt die Anwendung der ’Certainty-Factor’s-Technik,um das Vorliegen der Erkrankung(en) mit größerer Evidenz zu bestätigen. Die Aufgabe von ROPES ist die Unterstützung erfahrener Kliniker bei der raschen und effizienten Diagnosestellung.
