Abstract
Although the term “informatics” (equivalent to “computer science”) was coined more than 30 years ago, a definition in due logical form still does not exist. For some scientists informatics is “a fuzzy semantic construct whose origin is intuitive usage which fills a communication need,” whereas for many others an operational definition may be sufficient: informatics encompasses numerous different disciplines which are in some way concerned with the analysis, application, acquisition and accessibility of information.
