Abstract

In a conventional intensive care unit (ICU) some original signals (e. g. ECG, blood pressure waveforms) are displayed on scopes, giving nurses and physicians detailed informations. Original signals, however, can be observed intermittently only. There is some assistance by alarms from monitors and alarm-writers, but the probability to detect important events and their documentation is rather fragmentary. This has been shown impressively for the situation of a coronary car unit by Vetter and Julian /9/.
