Abstract
Monitoring of respiration in adult, infant and particularly newborn anaesthesia is of vital importance. In the case of big children, the respiration can be measured in a simple way like that of the adult and can in the same way be controlled. Such measurements were until recently not possible in infants and newborns, either becausc the method cannot be incorporated into the special anaesthetic technique used or duc to the fact that the sensitivity of the apparatus is limited or its deadspace too large.
