Zusammenfassung
Schon die ersten Beobachter der Sternspektren bemerkten, daß man diese in der Hauptsache zu einer einparametrigen Sequenz ordnen kann. Zunächst richtete man sich hierbei lediglich nach dem „Aussehen“ der Spektren. Später versuchte man, sich über die verwandten Klassifikationskriterien Rechenschaft zu geben und sie genauer zu definieren. In diesem Abschnitt wollen wir uns nur einen vorläufigen Überblick verschaffen und dafür später auf die ganzen Klassifikationsproblerne noch einmal zurückkommen.
