Abstract

Amorphous solids have attracted strong attention in modern materials science for the following two reasons: The first is due to a wide range of utilization of amorphous solids as engineering materials of metals, ceramics, and organic polymers in high-tech fields. The other is a fundamental point of view approach to materials physics and chemistry as opposed to that of the perfect crystal. The properties of amorphous solids are essentially structure sensitive, since the amorphous solid remains in the non-equilibrium state and has a great degree of freedom in the atomic motion and configuration.
