Classification Based Query Evaluation in Knowledge Base Systems

  • Conference paper
Information Systems and Data Analysis

Summary

Classification as structuring principle for data is a common basis of many knowledge base systems. A newer idea is to employ classification for query evaluation purposes as recently done in concept language implementations and in the advanced deductive database system ConceptBase. The question is: Can we amalgamate the advantages of the techniques used in these approaches? This paper first proposes the notion of query classes with a deductive interpretation and then describes an orthogonal integration of a concept language for types of classes. Classification on the type lattice leads to an optimized query evaluation process.
