Abstract
Following a brief introduction to the “world” of fact retrieval, the specific problems involved in online searching in fact databases are discussed. Online retrieval is defined in this context to be a decision-making situation in which novice users often need support. A prototypical user interface (EXPRESS — EXperimental PRototype for Exploring uSer Support mechanisms in information retrieval) is presented in order to demonstrate forms which decision support for users could take.
